it's all about london busses
well one really can't complain about living "out of london" if it only takes 2-3 hours to get anywhere in the country (except for manchester, which takes 5). busses are the way to go, and quite frankly the tube is over-rated and over-priced when in london. all day bus passes are literal gold mines and i've seen the sights from the top of a red double-decker for £2.50... better deal than the official sightseeing bus by a long way
so bournemouth is the temporary abode of another friend from what should now be known as 'the sarajevo bunch'. simeon is the last of those friends, aside from oli and hannah - who i couldn't get in touch with - that i managed to meet up with and did some very enjoyable last minute hanging out in his own town. technically bournemouth is not his home town, but for the duration of his degree (or indeed for however long he decides to continue his degree in fine-art/illustration) it is his home. and not a bad little home at that: as i said it's hard to complain when you are so close to the city and even harder when you live on the beach - the envy of all britain i am sure
in terms of liveliness; one kind of has to make their own fun in bournemouth and that is indeed what we did. somewhat of a last decision for me to pop down there so i arrived late evening and went straight to the uni bar to await simeon; we downed a few pints and then continued the festivities and conversation on back at his place. i was the virgin visitor to his new student digs and we hung out in his living/work room with his very fun and similarly creative flatmate, aisa until the early hours of the morning. bournemouth turned up the sunshine for us so we hit the beach for a nice long stroll along the brightly coloured beach huts and then went into town where a german beer tent was set up selling steins and bratwurst sausages. couldn't resist and considering the state of my diet lately (which consists of take-away burgers and other cheap and nasties such as supermarket sandwiches) the freshly cooked sausage was a step up.
the uk has been fun, and i packeed in a couple of sights including the imperial military museum and a nice walk and evening drink in soho; the streets of which were remarkably small and jam-packed. there was a new d-day exhibition in the military museum which was quite informative, and a student film festival had some good and also quite chilling war footage playing in the cinema. there was nothing more terrifying than seeing de-comissioned 2 story wwII rockets because if these are the out-of-date models then one can only imagine what the new versions look like. i will also confess that i got right into the submarine "hands on" exhibit which had mock decks and airlock portholes to swing through. i think the exhibition was designed for people alot younger than myself but the submarines it mimicks definitely weren't so i figured why not.
back to france tomorrow for liams birthday. so long mother country
