it's all about vis

this place is equally as stunning, if not more so, than when I first posted... it's been nice to leave the pack by the side of the bed and soak up some relaxation. have also managed to work up some tan under the cloudless skies (also working up a steady imprint of the pebbles that line shores of the beaches on my skin). we figure that, considering we spend so little on our accomodation here we may aswell eat out, but the kitchen and fridge has been great for breakfast and lunch/chilled water (and other beverages including some local white wine.)

it seems to be the case that the weather in croatia loves its extremes, today was deathly still and hot but as i write a storm - including lightning - has broken and cuts my passage back to our abode. may have to spend more time on the internet... something i don't hate.

all in all the lovely seaside cuisine of fresh fish and local bread and wine has combined with the national dress code of bikini's and hotpants that leave little to the imagination to create a more than memorable destination. we plan to depart tomorrow morning, and possibly part ways with liam who is keener and under a tighter time-limit than us to get back to france (via spain). we will go north and spend a little more time elsewhere in croatia before heading east. apparently floods and rain is on the cards for september so we aim to get as much sun as possible.

the first two of these items are scottish and united kindom institutions respectively. the former, quite rightly, holds a much higher standing in my mind simply due to the relative quality of the whiskey industry as a whole. hundreds of whiskeys, regionally denominated - and some better than the other of course - offer value that far outweighs any of the pre deep-fried items one can purchase in a fish & chips shop. unfortunately one cannot live off whiskey and must succumb to the only reasonably priced food availible in the U.K: sandwhiches from the supermarket, or a pizza. lucky for me i am only out of the "home" briefly as i write from edinburgh for i have the privelage of a kitchen and a keen cook in the form of scarlet back glasgow way. have unfortunately had to leave her warm abode for a night in incredibly windy but spectacular edinburgh. i don't like going in for the comparisons but it is worthwhile throwing in a few notes about the differences between the ...

slovenia in retrospect

its easy to talk lovingly about a place when you are writing on a stomach full of home-cooked italian food (and especially so when it is that of the bianchi's!). yes, i am in italy and i understand why most italian men have a 'paunch' - otherwise known as a pot belly i write now in the sweet lethargy that arises from the combination of past exhaustion and present relaxation. after 3 packed days of sight-seeing and wonderful hospitaltiy in vienna we took an overnight train to bled overloaded like south-american packhorses with snacks ranging from fruit salad to practical 3-course meal sandwiches courtesy of our australian/viennese livnig host donna. 9 hours and 2 changes (including an accidental busride) later we arrived to a lake bled sunrise and a full hostel. the biggest stroke of luck turned into a double-hit when the australian couple who's hostel beds we usurped mentioned that they were heading to zagreb. lucy's face shod its sleepless gloom and opportunist...
